Square has partnered with Staples, world’s largest office product company, to sell Square Stand to the local merchants. With more than 1000 stores across the US, Staples will provide the local merchants an option to test and purchase the Square Stand and Square Register. Square already offers its POS software for free to the merchants.
Square’s partnership with Staples augments its strategy to acquire and serve small business merchants. Also, the ability to test the hardware and purchase at low or no price as compared to traditional POS system will be a big winner in small and medium merchant segment.
Interestingly, 70% of the merchants buying Square Stand are new and have never used a Square Product. This opens up the potential to cross sell products and create higher entry barrier for any future completion.
